EndNote Online lets you manage references in an online library and to create bibiliographies in Word documents just as the desktop version of EndNote does. EndNote Web interacts smoothly with the desktop version and synchronizes your library with your devices, including your iPad using the EndNote app. EndNote Online is recommended for EndNote users who want the advantages of a Web-based library, and possible for those involved in collaborative projects.
Harvard users have access to EndNote Online through our license to the Web of Science and need not purchase EndNote to use it (EndNote Online does not include the desktop version). This version of EndNote Online does not let you transfer attached PDF files. Sharing files requires a personal purchased copy of EndNote. If you own a desktop copy of EndNote, see the "EndNote Online for EndNote Owners" section below.
To begin using EndNote Web:
- Go to the EndNote Online site through the Harvard proxy server.
- Sign up for an account by following the "Sign Up" link.
- In EndNote Online, download the Cite While You Write plug in from the "Format" tab from the main library view. This is only needed if you do not have EndNote.
- Instructions for using EndNote Online are available on an extensive Help page which is available from a link in the upper right hand corner of the EndNote Online page.
