Sharing EndNote References

Sharing with Other EndNote Users

The .data folder is a critical part of your library. Whenever you copy or move a library, you must include not only the filename.enl file, but also its associated folder and all it's contents. EndNote makes this easy to do with compressed libraries.

To mail or transfer an EndNote Library to another user, save your library as a single, compressed 'enlx' file. You can do so by running the Compressed Library utility that you'll find under the EndNote File menu. The enlx file includes both the .enl library and the .data folder, including all the attachments. It can be opened by any version of EndNote (after version 8).

Use the Open command in EndNote (under the File menu) to open and resolve a enlx file into a library and a .data folder.

The compressed library also makes a good back up for your library.
