The Council of European Social Science Data Archives (CESDA), promotes the acquisition, archiving and distribution of electronic data for social science teaching and research in Europe. CESSDA provides access to datasets from 12 social science data archives across Europe, including sociological surveys, election studies, longitudinal studies, opinion polls, and census data. Among the materials are international and European data such as the European Social Survey, the Eurobarometers, and the International Social Survey Programme.

The institute focuses on data related to labor, political, and social behavior, demography, economics, and health. "The collection includes federal and state census files, administrative records, public opinion surveys, economic and social data from national and international organizations, along with studies compiled by individual researchers."

Data Planet offers powerful capabilities to compare & contrast multiple data series, perform statistical calculations on the data, and customize output views.

This resource is a comprehensive list of open data portals in the world, curated by a group of open data experts from around the world - including representatives from local, regional and national governments, international organisations such as the World Bank, and numerous NGOs.

Still in Beta, Elsevier's DataSearch searches for research data across domains and types, from many domain-specific, cross-domain and institutional data repositories.

Eurostat is the statistical agency for the EU. The site provides access to data (monthly, quarterly, and annual data) from 1960 onwards. Topics include: general statistics, regional statistics, economy and finance, population and social conditions, industry, services and transport, and intra- extra-EU trade statistics.

FedStats had been a website maintained by the Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy, provides easy access to the full range of statistics and information produced by more than 70 U.S. federal agencies. It was removed in 2018, but it has been mirrored. The Internet Crossroads in Social Science Data, produced by the Data and Program Library Service at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, provides annotated listings of data resources organized into several broad topical areas.

The IQSS Dataverse Network is the principal repository of quantitative social science data at Harvard University and includes data from the ICPSR, the Roper Center, the U.S. Census Bureau, the National Archives and the Murray Research Archive.

The National Statistical Offices listing, maintained by the United Nations Statistics Division as part of its Development of National Statistical Systems effort, provides links to a country’s primary statistical offices.

Proquest Statistical Insight provides indexes and abstracts of the statistical content of selected publications of U.S. federal and state agencies, non-governmental associations, commercial publishers, universities, and international, research and business organizations. It includes data in the Statistical Abstract of the U.S. that is also now published by ProQuest.

ProQuest Statistical Abstracts of the U.S.provides a summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic conditions of the United States. It used to be published by the U.S. Census Bureau (back in 1878) but is now published by ProQuest. The online edition is available back to 2013 from ProQuest and 1878-2012 from the government. It is also available in print from ProQuest and back to 1878 from the government. There is also Historical Statistics of the United States (Millennial Edition)(Harvard Login) which goes back to colonial times.

Commodity Price Statistics, produced by UNCTAD, provides monthly free-market prices and price indices starting in January 1960 for selected commodities that concern commodity-dependent countries. Price indices are provided for commodity groups (including food, tropical beverages, vegetable oilseeds and oils, agricultural raw materials, minerals, ores and metals), and for all groups in current dollars and SDRs. Datastream, available on workstations in the HBS Baker Library Financial Databases Room, is a comprehensive online historical database service providing global coverage of a broad range of financial entities and instruments. Datastream provides historical, global coverage of equities, stock markets, commodities, futures, currencies, options, and bond markets, company financials, and economic data from national governments, OECD, EIU, IMF, Worldscope, and Morgan Stanley Capital (MSCI). Datastream is updated daily and historical equity information goes back to 1973. The HBS subscription also includes financial statement data for non-U.S. companies via Worldscope in Datastream.

Global Financial Data (GFD) is a comprehensive economic and financial time-series database covering 150 countries and 6,500 different data series. GFD includes data on stock markets from 1690, exchange rates from 1590, interest rates from 1700, commodities from 1500, and inflation from 1264. Users can download data into spreadsheet format or use the graphing features. The GFD Encyclopedia, available on the GFD web site, provides information on the data series in the database, including time period covered, frequency, sources, historical changes that have affected the series, background information, and other explanations about changes in the composition in the indices. Global Insight provides U.S. economic, financial and demographic statistics, including employment, finance, housing, income, population, production, and trade. InfoGroup’s Historical Business Backfile consists of geo-coded records of millions of US businesses and other organizations that contain basic information on each entity, such as: contact information, industry description, annual revenues, number of employees, year established, and other data. Each annual file consists of a “snapshot” of InfoGroup’s data as of the last day of each year, creating a time series of data 1997-2018. Use of Infogroup US Historical Business Data is subject to the terms and conditions of a license agreement (effective March 16, 2016) between Harvard and Infogroup Inc. and subject to applicable laws.

Most data files are available in either .csv or .sas format. All data files are compressed into an archive in .gz, or GZIP, format. Extraction software such as 7-Zip is required to unzip these archive. Log into Dataverse with your Harvard Key first.

Created by researchers at The Graduate Institute and World Trade Institute, it traces consistency and legal innovation in English language BITs from 1959 to 2014.

Mintel Reports provides market and consumer research across multiple International markets and U.S. categories. Each study provides a synthesis of both primary and secondary data and analysis. Reports are removed when superseded. Users are required to agree to academic terms of use and to set up personal accounts using a valid email to begin searching and view reports. Morningstar Direct, available on workstations in the HBS Baker Library Financial Databases Room, is a multi-currency research platform providing performance and holdings analysis of investments. Morningstar Direct includes data on closed-end funds, equity ownership, exchange traded funds, hedge funds, market indexes, money market funds, offshore funds, open-end mutual funds, pension/life insurance, stocks and 529 plans.

Tool for finding complaint ratios for insurance companies with state departments of insurance. Users can search by company name, NAIC code, state and insurance type. Results can be downloaded in CSV/text.

The Urban Institute's National Center for Charitable Statistics offers its data and related material for research on the nonprofit sector.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists provides information on more than 800,000 offshore entities that are part of the Pandora Papers, Paradise Papers, Bahamas Leaks, Panama Papers and Offshore Leaks investigations. OpenCorporates is a large open database of data from more than 100 million companies from around the world and offers an API. It also has companion sites: Open Gazettes for public notices for Europe, OpenLEIs for legal entities and Open Ownership Register. Its Open Company Data Index in collaboration with the World Bank Institute measures the accessibility and openess of core company information in various countries.

OptionMetrics, available through WRDS, is a comprehensive source of historical price and implied volatility data for the US equity and index options markets. OptionMetrics contains historical prices of options and their associated underlying instruments, correctly calculated implied volatilities, and option sensitivities. Data available from 1996-present. Formerly called Global Marketplace Information Database, this integrated on-line information system covers over 350 markets in 207 countries. The UCLA-LoPucki Bankruptcy Research Database (BRD) was a data collection, data linking, and data dissemination project of the UCLA School of Law. The BRD’s mission is to promote bankruptcy research by making bankruptcy data available to academic researchers throughout the world. It is no longer updated and covers changes to the end of December 2022.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office provides calendar year patent statistics, fiscal year patent statistics, statistics on caseloads and performance, and reexamination statistics. It also provides several open data sets in bulk downloads and with API's.

Produced by the Corporate Research Project of Good Jobs First, Violation Tracker covers corporate misconduct, including banking, consumer protection, false claims, environmental, wage & hour, unfair labor practice, health, safety, employment discrimination, price-fixing, bribery and other cases resolved by more than 40 federal regulatory agencies and all parts of the Justice Department since 2000 -- plus selected types of class action lawsuits. The Climate Analysis Indicators Tool (CAIT) is an information and analysis tool on global climate change developed by the World Resources Institute. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) assists the House and Senate Budget Committees, and the Congress more generally, by preparing reports and analyses. In accordance with the CBO’s mandate to provide objective and impartial analysis, CBO’s reports contain no policy recommendations. In late January of each year, CBO reports on the economic and budget outlook, including estimates of spending and revenue levels for the next 10 years under current law. This so-called budget baseline serves as a neutral benchmark against which Members of Congress can measure the budgetary effect of proposed legislation. Each year CBO provides an independent re-estimate of the President’s budget proposals. This analysis is delivered to the Congress approximately one month after the President submits his budget. It permits the Congress to compare the President’s spending or revenue proposals to other proposals using a consistent set of economic and technical assumptions. Envirofacts allows the user to retrieve information from multiple sources of for many areas of interest, including Air, Waste, Facility, Land, Toxics, Compliance, Water, and Radiation. The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) is a database containing data on disposal or other releases of over 600 toxic chemicals as well as information on facility management practices. FRASER, the Federal Reserve Archival System for Economic Research, consists of over 40 thousand pages of historical economic statistical publications, releases, and documents. The goal of FRASER is to contribute to the quality of scientific economic research through the creation of a public electronic archive of economic statistical publications and data. FRASER consists of an archive of economic statistical publications and an automated system to retrieve both images and data. Within the archive is an image library of economic statistical publications and the data extracted from those publications. The FRASER database is designed to retain information linking each data point to its source publication, including the date of publication. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Statistical Database presents a structured set of economic indicators for countries of the UNECE region. United Nations National Accounts, maintained by the United Nations Statistics Division, is the product of a global cooperation effort between the UNSD, international statistical agencies and the national statistical services of more than 200 countries and is in accordance with the request of the UN Statistical Commission that the most recent available data on national accounts of as many countries and areas as possible be published and disseminated regularly. The National Accounts Main Aggregates Database contains a complete and consistent set of time series from 1970 onwards of main national accounts aggregates for all UN Members States and all other countries and areas in the world. "The Targeted Mass Killing (TMK) dataset is intended to contribute to the study and prevention of genocide, politicide, and similar atrocities. Version 1.0 (2019) provides data on 201 TMK episodes for the period 1946-2017 with annualised information on perpetrator intent, severity, targeted groups and a host of additional variables. It includes a pre-coded ordinal indicator of TMK that aggregates evidence of intent and severity into a 7-point scale and a new binary indicator of genocide and politicide that can serve as an alternative to existing measures. Users are able to construct their own indicators from the dataset, based on their research questions or preferred definitions. Version 1.1 (2021) updates the data for the period 2018-2020."

"The data available here include almost 10 million individual events, each coded to the exact day they occur or become known. Each event is summarized in the data as "Actor A does something to Actor B", with Actors A and B recording about 450 countries and other (within-country) actors and "does something to" coded in an ontology of about 200 types of actions. The data are coded by computer from millions of Reuters news reports. The software system (produced by VRA) that performs this task has been independently evaluated by King and Lowe (2003). This article found that for the numbers of events it was possible to convince humans (trained Harvard undergraduates) to code by hand, the machine did as well as the humans. For much larger numbers of events for which no expert coder could keep up, the machine dominates. "

The Corpus of the United States Supreme Court includes all opinions in the United States Reports and opinions published by the Supreme Court through the 2017 term.

The Guardian runs this crowd-sourced project "to count the number of people killed by police and other law enforcement agencies in the United States throughout 2015 and 2016, to monitor their demographics and to tell the stories of how they died."

The database will combine Guardian reporting with verified crowdsourced information to build a more comprehensive record of such fatalities. The Counted is the most thorough public accounting for deadly use of force in the US, but it will operate as an imperfect work in progress – and will be updated by Guardian reporters and interactive journalists as frequently and as promptly as possible.

The CourtListener Judicial database was "formed as partnership with researcher Elliott Ash at Princeton University and with support from the National Science Foundation and Knight Foundation. The database has information about thousands of judges from federal and state courts, including their biographical and educational background, judicial and non-judicial positions held, political affiliations, American Bar Association ratings, campaign finance data, and opinions authored." Crime in the United States is a compendium of statistics from the Uniform Crime Reporting program (UCR). This publication was originally a government publication that is now published by Bernan Press. Previous editions appear in print and online. Bernan Press also published Justice Statistics: an Extended Look at Crime in the United States, a special edition of Crime in the United States, bringing together several key reports (including Crime in the United States) with brief summaries of each report's methodology. You can usually find the reports referenced elsewhere, but this resource provides a useful starting place/overview for crime statistics.

from the author Ronen Avraham's SSRN abstract: "This manuscript of the DSTLR (6th) updates the DSTLR (5th) and contains the most detailed, complete and comprehensive legal dataset of the most prevalent tort reforms in the United States between 1980 and 2018. The DSTLR has been downloaded more than 2700 times and has become the standard tool in empirical research of tort reform. The dataset records state laws in all fifty states and the District of Columbia over the last several decades. For each reform we record the effective date, a short description of the reform, whether or not the jury is allowed to know about the reform, whether the reform was upheld or struck down by the states’ courts, as well as whether it was amended by the state legislator. Scholarship studying the empirical effects of tort reforms relies on various datasets, (tort reforms datasets and other legal compilations). Some of the datasets are created and published independently and some of them are created ad-hoc by the researchers. The usefulness of these datasets frequently suffers from various defects. They are often incompatible and do not accurately record judicial invalidation of laws. Additionally, they frequently lack reforms adopted before 1986, amendments adopted after 1986, court-based reforms, and effective dates of legislation. It is possible that some of the persisting variation across empirical studies about the effects of tort reforms might be due to the variations in legal datasets used by the studies. This dataset builds upon and improves existing data sources. It does so through a careful review of original legislation and case law to determine the exact text and effective dates. The Death Penalty Information Center offers the Executions in the US 1608-2002 dataset which includes the name, age and race of executed individuals as well as the date and method of execution. One may also use its Searchable Execution Database to search 1976-2015 and create a .csv file of the results. Launched by the Legal Services Corporation, The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) in partnership with the Center for Public Health Law Research captures the eviction process captures the entire eviction legal process in different communities around the country. Their State/Territory Dataset covers eviction laws, regulations, and court rules that were in effect as of January 1, 2021 in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and eight U.S. territories. The second is a local dataset covering eviction laws, including those at the county and local level, .

The Washington Posts's database strives to contain records of every fatal shooting in the United States by a police officer in the line of duty since Jan. 1, 2015.

The FBI’s FBI Criminal Justice Information Services serves as the central repository for criminal justice information services in the FBI. Programs consolidated under the CJIS Division include the National Crime Information Center, Uniform Crime Reporting, and Fingerprint Identification.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports provides uniform crime statistics for the United States. Several annual statistical publications, such as Crime in the United States, Hate Crime Statistics, and Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, are produced from data provided by U.S. law enforcement agencies. The FBI’s primary objective is to generate a reliable set of crime statistics for use in law enforcement administration, operation, and management.

"Compendium of Federal Circuit decisions is a database created to both standardize and analyze decisions of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The Compendium includes all opinions, orders, and summary affirmances that were released on the Federal Circuit’s website—essentially all opinions since 2004 and all summary affirmances since 2007, along with numerous orders and other documents." The Federal Judicial Center hosts the Integrated Database (IDB) containing data back to 1970 on civil case and criminal defendant filings and terminations in the district courts, along with bankruptcy court and appellate court case information. Data may be download in a tab-delimited text file or viewed online in an interactive view to create subsets of civil cases based on federal circuit, district, nature of suit, disposition, origin, jurisdiction, class action designation, filing date, termination date, and docket number.
The Federal Court Cases: Integrated Data Base 1970-2000 in ICPSR contains information on all federal court cases over the period 1970-2000. Data files from 2001 onward are available in individual sets under the series Federal Court Cases: Integrated Database Series and through WRDS.

A project of the Sunlight Foundation, Hall of Justice is a searchable inventory of almost 10,000 publicly available criminal justice datasets and research documents from the states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and the federal government.

Includes summary information on 10,287 criminal arrest cases from the years 2005-2014 involving 8,495 individual nonfederal sworn law enforcement officers, each of whom were charged with one or more crimes. The arrested officers were employed by 3,429 state, local, and special law enforcement agencies located in 1,486 counties and independent cities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Created by a group of scholars from a range of disciplinary perspectives, it strives to be collaborative database on the history of violent crime, violent death, and collective violence from medieval times to the present. to gather enough data to allow researchers to describe accurately the history of violence. No single researcher or group of researchers can examine enough sources in enough jurisdictions to achieve that goal. We are confident, however, that an ongoing, collaborative effort can. It includes qualitative as well as quantitative data on each suspected act of violence that appears in the historical record. Most databases on crime, death, or collective violence are quantitative. They report the bare facts: date, place, cause of death, etc. Such databases seldom report qualitative information: the details of the incident, the personal histories of victims or perpetrators, the ambiguities in the surviving evidence, etc. Without such information, scholars cannot reclassify crimes or deaths or protests or ask new questions about them. It will include worksheets, spreadsheets, images, text files of original documents, and relational files.

The database currently includes 1308 cases decided by the U.S. Supreme Court from its founding through its October 2017 term.

JUSTFAIR is a database of criminal sentencing decisions made in federal district courts, compiled from public sources including the United States Sentencing Commission, the Federal Judicial Center, PACER, and Wikipedia. A project of the Newkirk Center for Science & Society at University of California Irvine, the University of Michigan Law School and Michigan State University College of Law, the National Registry of Exonerations was founded in 2012 in conjunction with the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University School of Law. It provides information about every known exoneration in the United States since 1989. It also has a limited database of that covers known exonerations prior to 1989.

The ACLU of New York collected over 300,000 complaints made by the public on record at the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB).

In the 3rd edition of Policing for Profit: The Abuse of Civil Asset Forfeiture, the Institute for Justice gathered records from the forfeiture programs of 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. departments of Justice and the Treasury. They obtained revenue data for 28 states describing individual forfeited properties—a total of 355,000 properties for the 24 states with usable data. They obtained revenue data for individual agencies or prosecutors’ offices for 11 other states. They also collected data on spending from forfeiture funds for 17 states. The data is organized in a single database with over 17 million data points.

The Supreme Court Database, created by Professor Harold Spaeth, Michigan State University and hosted by Washington University in St. Louis, contains over two hundred pieces of information about each case decided by the Court between the 1794 and 2020 terms. Examples include the identity of the court whose decision the Supreme Court reviewed, the parties to the suit, the legal provisions considered in the case, and the votes of the Justices.

The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is a data gathering, data research and data distribution organization associated with Syracuse University. TRAC’s purpose is to provide with comprehensive information about federal staffing, spending, and the enforcement activities of the federal government. TRACfed provides a wide range of information about federal enforcement activities as well as detailed information about federal staffing, federal funds, and the diverse characteristics of counties, federal districts, and states. TRACfed data is organized into several modules including: Criminal Enforcement, Civil Enforcement, Administrative Enforcement, People & staffing, Money (Federal Funds), and Community Context. Creating and saving data to a “web locker” permits creation of data slices. Users may also get information about particular statutes with its About the Law tool. Access is controlled by HLS IP-address and is limited to the Harvard Law School community. Off-campus access is controlled by HLS Me Account username and password. Scholars may apply for the TracFed fellows program for bulk access.

"UNODC regularly updates statistical series on crime, criminal justice, drug trafficking and prices, drug production, and drug use. Data disseminated by UNODC are mainly sourced from national statistical systems. Data on drugs are submitted through the Annual Report Questionnaire (ARQ) and the Individual Drug Seizure (IDS) reports, while data on crime and criminal justice are supplied through the annual United Nations Survey on Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems (UN-CTS). UNODC processes data to increase data comparability and to produce regional and global estimates." Summary information on capital punishment includes data on illegal lynchings by race and offense, regional comparisons of the number of persons executed, the number under the death sentence, the number of women executed, and the number of persons removed from the death sentence other than by execution. Prison statistics cover the number in Federal, State, and juvenile facilities; the average sentence by sex, region, race, and offense; length of sentence; and type of release. Statistics also cover facility staff, inmate-staff ratio, and jail inmates. Probation and parole statistics address the numbers under supervision (both adults and juveniles), average caseload, terminations by method of termination, the average length of parole and percent with favorable outcome, and probationer and parolee profiles. Child Labour Statistics is produced by the Statistical Information and Monitoring Programme on Child Labour (SIMPOC). SIMPOC is a unit of the ILO International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC). SIMPOC provides technical assistance to ILO member States to generate reliable, comparable and comprehensive data on child labor in all its forms. The assistance includes developing and implementing child labor surveys as well as enhancing capacity in ILO member States to collect, process, disseminate and analyze data on child labor on a regular and sustainable basis. New techniques for investigating the more hidden forms of child labor have also been developed. The Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics (Forum) is a collection of 23 Federal government agencies involved in research and activities related to children and families. Its annual report, America's Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being, provides the Nation with a summary of national indicators of child well-being and monitors changes in these indicators over time.

EdStats, the World Bank’s comprehensive database of education statistics, provides access to a variety of national and international data sources as well as World Bank data on pertinent education topics. The EdStats Data Query holds over 2000 internationally-comparable education indicators from various sources for over 200 countries and regional/income group aggregates. EdStats is a product of the World Bank in collaboration with the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and the OECD.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) provides statistics on employment, enforcement and litigation.

Environmental Data Set Gateway is a catalog of geospatial and non-geospatial data resources made available by EPA’s Program Offices, Regions, and Laboratories. Envirofacts allows users to search environmental information from EPA databases on Air, Chemicals, Facility Information, Grants/Funding, Hazardous Waste, Spatial Data, Superfund, Toxic Releases, and Water Permits and Drinking Water and allows searching by particular locations like zip code or place of interest.

The International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Department of Statistics collects and disseminate labor statistics; sets international standards and guidelines for labor statistics; and provides technical cooperation, assistance and training in labor statistics. ILOSTAT Database provides access to labor statistics covering over 100 indicators for more than 230 countries. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), located within the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences, is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education.

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is principal U.S. health statistics agency. NCHS produces data on a wide range of health indicators such as: Health insurance coverage and its relationship to access and utilization of health care services; Exposure to environmental chemicals; Prevalence of obesity and overweight among the U.S. population; Patterns and relationships of risk factors to specific diseases and populations; Nutrition and physical activity; Growth charts to monitor the development of children; Health status, health-related behaviors and risk factors; Key health indicators such as infant mortality, life expectancy, and teen births; Emergency department use and capacity to measure bioterrorism preparedness; and Practice of medicine in the U.S., the increasing use of prescription drugs, evolution of roles and practices of health care providers, and changes in institutions and health plans. The National Science Foundation National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) is responsible for the collection, interpretation, analysis and dissemination of objective statistical data on research and development; the science and engineering workforce; U.S. competitiveness in science, engineering, technology, and R&D, and the condition and progress of STEM education in the United States.

NDACAN makes available microdata related to child maltreatment acquired from leading researchers and national data collection efforts.
