Catching the Wave: Photographs of the Women's Movement

Get Started

Start your archival research on photographs of the women's movement (1960s to 1980s) with this guide.

Two years of Hidden Collections grants from the Harvard Library allowed Schlesinger Library to select, catalog, and digitize a large portion of photograph collections that document the women’s liberation movement between the late 1960s and 1980s. This guide features the collections digitized as part of this grant.

In addition to the resources included in this guide, please explore the online version of this project, Catching the Wave.

Digitized Photograph Collections

Collections from which a selection of images were digitized as part of the Hidden Collections grant from Harvard Library are listed below. Each title links out to the digitized photograph collection in HOLLIS Images, Harvard's online visual materials catalog. While not exhaustive, collectively these images offer a glimpse into the women's liberation movement of the 1960s through 1980s.
