What is a finding aid?

A finding aid is a detailed listing of the contents of a collection. It explains what material is included in a collection and helps you locate specific materials by showing you how the collection is arranged. Often, a finding aid will provide contextual information of the collection, including a content note or biography. This information can help you determine whether or not the collection will be helpful to you.
