Sources to help you identify topics

Encyclopedias and handbooks can also help you define a topic of interest. Use them to:

  • Get an overview of a new or complex topic
  • Find out the names of key authors in a given area
  • Locate terms that you can use in your research
  • Help narrow (or expand) your topic
  • Locate a bibliography of sources to help you start your research.

To find a handbook or encyclopedia in a specific subject area, add (handbooks OR encyclopedias) to a HOLLIS search.

Work smarter: Meet with a research librarian

Save time and make a research librarian smile--the best part of our day is meeting with students.

Work with us to:

  • brainstorm your paper topic
  • develop a research strategy for primary and secondary sources
  • learn to how to find and use relevant resources
