Committee Types
Committee of the Whole: consisting of the entire House, presided over by a chairperson
Joint Committee: composed of members from both House and Senate
Select Special Committee: the House and Senate each appoint special committees to study specific matters. They cease to exist when they make their final reports, when their deadline expires, or when the Session ends.
Standing Committee: the House and Senate each appoint standing committees for the duration of a Parliament. They consider and report on major issues referred to them by government. Subcommittees may be formed within a standing committee.
Legislative Committee: examines and reports on a bill, with or without amendment. Once a legislative committee has reported on a bill it was created to examine, the committee ceases to exist.
