Lexis, Westlaw and Bloomberg Law Training

Tips, information and videos to help you get started

Welcome

Welcome

This guide contains registration tips for the Lexis, Westlaw and Bloomberg Law legal research databases, as well as vendor-provided materials and information about training sessions as they become available.

This guide is intended for Harvard Law School students only.  Faculty, staff and other Harvard affiliates should contact research@law.harvard.edu for assistance.

Incoming 1Ls, Transfers, LLMs and SJDs:   Please look for an email from the library (sent by Research Librarian Catherine Biondo) during the week of August 23, 2021 containing your personal database registration codes.  The email will be sent to the HLS email address you have on file with the Registrar's office.  If you do not see it, please first check spam, and then email research@law.harvard.edu.

General Tips for Registration

  • Always use your HLS email address to register for databases, as well as to sign up for tours and classes on the Research Training Calendar.  Your HLS email address identifies you to the vendor as an HLS student, and helps expedite registration. And, it's where Zoom links for training classes are sent.
  • Take note of the usernames and passwords you create.  The library does not have access to your usernames and passwords.  If you forget them, you will need to contact the vendors directly.
  • Phone numbers are usually optional.  If you are prompted to enter one on a registration form in order to complete your registration, but you do not have a 10-digit number, you may enter 999-999-9999.

Training Sessions

Training Sessions

Introductory and ongoing vendor training sessions will be posted here and on our Research Training Calendar as they become available. Click on the links there, or under "Upcoming Events" below, to sign up.

At this time, no sessions will take place on the HLS campus.  All sessions will be conducted online.

NOTE:  Training sessions may be geared toward a particular group (such as 1Ls) or focus on a particular topic, but anyone (LLMs, Transfers, etc) may attend.
