Why should I include a Creative Commons License to my final product?

You find yourself done with your project and you would like to share it, so that folks can view and use it. Now what? I would recommend including a creative commons license.

What is a Creative Commons License and other questions you might have

Creative Commons licenses give everyone from individual creators to large institutions a standardized way to grant the public permission to use their creative work under copyright law. Use Creative Commons tools to help share your work. They are free, easy-to-use copyright licenses provide a simple, standardized way to give your permission to share and use your creative work— on conditions of your choice.

What about copyright? CC licenses are copyright licenses, and depend on the existence of copyright to work. CC licenses are legal tools that creators and other rights holders can use to offer certain usage rights to the public, while reserving other rights. Those who want to make their work available to the public for limited kinds of uses while preserving their copyright may want to consider using CC licenses. Others who want to reserve all of their rights under copyright law should not use CC licenses.

Why does it matter?

Creative Commons as an organization wants to encourage reuse of folks' works by offering them for use under generous, standardized terms; those who want to make creative uses of works; and those who want to benefit from this symbiosis.

Does this spark your interest? If so, here is how you can proceed!

First, check the Creative Commons licenses and their permissions and other things to consider.

Second, once you have decided what Creative Commons license you want, use the License Chooser
