HOLLIS for Archival Discovery - Beta

The main search box is always available toward the top of each page, whether you are navigating a finding aid, on a repository's page, or just getting started on the landing page.

The following search options are available:

• all collections
• this repository
• this collection
• limit digital content

The search box options vary, depending on your location:

• "This repository" is available on a repository page, filtering your search results automatically to that individual repository.
• "This collection" is available if you are on any part of a finding aid and allows searching of just the contents of that finding aid.

Keyword searching will produce the most search results. Put words in quotes if you are searching for a specific phrase (e.g. "national health") or alphanumeric string (e.g. call numbers or identifiers).

The catalog may return variant forms of the provided keyword, such as "runs" and "running" if "run" is entered. However, if you are searching for a specific form of a word, be sure to use that variant as the keyword.

Use the LIMIT YOUR SEARCH options on the left side of the results page to refine your search, using options such as Date, Digital only, Repository, Format, etc. Select the drop-down arrow to the right of each option to display all the available options. If you are specifically interested in seeing diaries, for example, select that option under Format. Please keep in mind that the refine options will vary based on your search. Diaries may not be a Format option for all searches.

Pro tip: Certain options, such as Name, Place, Subject, and Format, have not been used consistently by special collections libraries and archives at Harvard, so searching or limiting results by these options may not provide the most accurate results. For example, if you limit search results using the Format "diaries," you may not receive as many results as you expect due to evolving descriptive practices. To check for additional search results, remove the filter and add "diaries" as a keyword in your search.

You can browse Collections or Repositories from the home page.

The Collections page will show you all the collections included in HOLLIS for Archival Discovery. From there, you can limit further using the refine options.

The Repositories page will show you a list of all the repositories that use HOLLIS for Archival Discovery. From there, you can view all the collections from a specific repository and find their contact information.
