Even before the release of the 2011 Institute of Medicine report on the Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People, researchers and health care professionals have been working to understand and address the unique needs of sexual and gender minorities (i.e. LGBTQ). This page and its sub-headings offer a starting point for those new to LGBTQ health as well as an up-to-date reference for the more seasoned health professional. The Institute of Medicine released in 2022 proceedings of a workshop on Reducing Inequalities Between Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Adolescents and Cisgender, Heterosexual Adolescents and in 2020 released, Understanding the Well-Being of LGBTQI+ Populations.
