Think Critically, Click Wisely!
Click only on links and files that are expected, and only from people you trust.
Phishing is a scam in which a message is sent with the intent of trying to get you to open a file, click a link, or follow provided instructions. The goal is to steal your personal information.
How to spot a phishing attempt:
- Does this make me feel anxious and reactive?
- Am I being asked to do something new or do something normal but in a new way?
- Will resolving this require providing a password, money, or data?
- Look closely at the sender's email address, is it an address you recognize?
If you suspect an email is a phishing attempt, do not open any links and forward directly to phishing@harvard.edu. When HUIT receives a suspected phishing email, they check it out to determine the risk.
