Cummingham, Andrew | 3/27/?? | 10/6/?? | 5 | 4 | 6 | These letters appear to come from Andrew Browne Cunningham (rather than Cummingham), who was 1st Viscount Cunningham of Hyndhope, a British naval admiral from WWII. The last year mentioned in the first letter is 1945, so it was sent some time around 1945. In the third, Cunningham suggests Morison "put off your return to Lisbon by one day," which places it during one of Morison's European trips. In fourth letter he mentions Morison visiting "Paul Jones' great fight with the Serapis," which places pre-59, when the book was published. In fifth letter, he mentions receiving copy of JPJ book, and he was a likely early recipient, so circa 59-60. |

Eisenhower, Dwight D. | 11/3/1948 | 10/27/1961 | 4 | 5 | 3 | The Finding Aid is incorrect about the dates of the Eisenhower letters. The first, DE to SEM is 11/3/48, the second, SEM to DE, is 11/5/48. Then there's SEM statement, 10/27/52 (two copies), then SEM to DE, 11/18/52. Finally is DE to SEM, 2/3/61. |
Eliot, Charles W. | 7/30/1956 | 7/30/1956 | 1 | 5 | 3 | Though there are 3 Charles W. Eliot's in the Finding Aid, two are the same: this CWE is a landscape architect, grandson of Samuel Atkins Eliot, and the same man as "Prof. Charles W. Eliot II" |
Eliot, Charles W. | 7/27/1909 | 7/25/1922 | 5 | 5 | 4 | This Charles William Eliot was son of Samuel Atkins Eliot and President of Harvard. The letters discuss Morison's engagement, his first book, the trial of Chafee and academic freedom, and "Maritime History" |
Eliot, Prof. Charles W., II | 6/10/1968 | 6/10/1968 | 1 | 5 | 4 | See Charles W. Eliot above. |
Eliot, [Edward] C. | 4/14/2022 | 4/14/2022 | 1 | 5 | 4 | This is Edward C. Eliot, the well-known St. Louis lawyer. I believe the Finding Aid location is also incorrect, as he seems to be writing from St. Louis |
