Class Albums and Yearbooks

Henry Kemble Oliver, Harvard College class of 1852

Harvard College Class Albums, 1852 to late 1890s

  • Class albums are bound collections original photographic prints that typically include images of students, faculty, staff, campus views and buildings, and other local people or scenes. Students could often assemble their own class albums, choosing from the set of images provided by that year's photographer. For many class years, the Archives holds several versions of the class album.
    • To find, search HOLLIS using keywords such as class album followed by a year, e.g. “class album 1856”.

Harvard College Yearbooks, late 1890s to present

  • Printed and smaller in format (unlike the individually curated earlier class albums of original prints), yearbooks provide a photographic documentary of a particular class’ four years at Harvard.
    • Yearbooks, beginning with the Class of 1900, are available for use on the reference shelves in the Harvard University Archives reading room.
