Page from Short nomenclator or vocabular in English and Hebrew by Judah Monis (1683-1764), ca. 1735

The purpose of this guide is to help researchers locate resources related to the social, academic and religious activities of Jewish faculty and students at Harvard across the course of four centuries. The emphasis of the materials covered by this guide focuses less on the teaching of Jewish studies, Hebrew, and Yiddish, and more on the overall Jewish experience at Harvard University. While this guide is thorough, it is not exhaustive.

In this guide, you will find links to collection descriptions in HOLLIS, Harvard’s library catalog, and HOLLIS for Archival Discovery, Harvard’s finding aid database, as well as links to online resources when available.

This guide is a work in progress. We will add more historical sources as we discover them and we welcome suggestions.
