Publications from the United States Joint Publications Research Service, a government agency which translates foreign language books, newspapers, journals, unclassified foreign documents and research reports. There was an emphasis on communist and developing countries. More than 130,000 reports were issued between 1957 and 1994. In its early years JPRS concentrated heavily on scientific and technical material from communist countries. Gradually coverage has broadened to include more non-scientific materials.
