Harvard Library provides access to a large selection of datasets in a variety of social science collections. Research librarians are available to help you locate appropriate datasets for your research and advise you on how to navigate the entire Harvard Library system. Select International Data/Statistics Sources
- OECD iLibrary (Harvard Login)Publications include OECD country studies, forecasting publications, reports, periodicals, and socio-economic databases.
- ProQuest Statistical Insight (Harvard Login)Indexes and abstracts the statistical content of selected United States government publications, state government publications, business and association publications, and intergovernmental publications. The abstracts may also contain a link to the full text of the table and/or a link to the agency's web site where the full text of the publication may be viewed and downloaded.
- IMF eLibrary (Harvard Login)Direct access to the IMF’s periodicals, books, working papers and studies, and data and statistical tools.
Includes the popular datasets: International Financial Statistics, Balance of Payments Series and Government Finance Series. - UN Comtrade (Harvard Login)Commodity Trade Statistics Database provides the latest trade data for over 130 countries. Includes indicators that measure the value of trade (and quantity when available) for a wide variety of international commodities.
Harvard Library does have a login for WITS, a free resource which only requires a special login when exceeding data limits. This must be used at Lamont Library. Please email GovDocs@fas.harvard.edu if you would like to set up a time to use WITS at Lamont. - UNdataUNdata provides access to major UN statistical databases and those of several international organizations.
- World DataBankThe World Bank's Open Data initiative is intended to provide all users with access to World Bank data, according to the Open Data Terms of Use. Create a free account and log in to save and share your reports and datasets.
- IPUMS InternationalProject dedicated to collecting and distributing census data from around the world. Create an account and provide a short description of your research as part of a data request form.
- Knoema World Data AtlasSearch engine for macroeconomic and social statistics for many countries. Links to data sources.
Political Risk/Regional Analyses & Data
- Economist Intelligence Unit (Harvard Login) Provides country profiles and data, including information on politics, economy, risk, regulation, and business environment of a country. Note: Material to which Harvard does not have access is marked with a small diamond icon in browse or search results.
- CountryData.com (Harvard Login) Political, financial and economic risk data with over 75 variables for 140 countries. ICRG risk ratings are also included.
- Migration Policy Institute Data Hub : an independent, non-partisan think-tank in Washington DC, MPI provides analysis, development, and evaluation of migration and refugee policies at the local, national, and international levels. The Data Hub showcases the most current national and state-level demographic, social, and economic facts about immigrants to the US; as well as stock, flow, citizenship, net migration, and historical data for countries in Europe, North America, and Oceania.
Public Opinion
- Gallup Analytics (Harvard login) Records of 70+ years of public opinion polling data and analyses compiled by Gallup, Inc.
- Roper Center for Public Opinion (Harvard login) Access to aggregate and raw public opinion data.
- Polling the Nations (Harvard Login) Questions and responses from surveys conducted by polling organizations from 1986 to the present in the United States and more than 80 other countries.
- Americas Barometer - LAPOP (Harvard Login) The Latin American Public Opinion Project is an e-resource that provides access to the data from regularly conducted, multi-country surveys of democratic values and behaviors in the Americas. Surveys have measured system support, political tolerance, citizen participation, local government, corruption, and views on authoritarianism for the Americas. Coverage begins in 2004.
