Celia Adler was a Jewish seamstress who emigrated from Russia to the United States in 1914. She lived in Brooklyn, New York, for most of her life. The collection consists of a fictionalized autobiographical account written by Adler, Day and Night Dreams, as well as some biographical information about Adler.

Mildred Aldrich was a journalist, author, and editor raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She began her career as a journalist with the Boston Home Journal, and went on to work at Boston Journal and the Boston Herald. In 1892 she founded a magazine, the Mahogany Tree, which contained editorials, fiction, poetry, drama, and book reviews. She moved to Paris in 1898 and became close friends with Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. She worked there as a foreign correspondent and translated French plays into English. The collection consists of four bound volumes containing a typed transcript of her autobiography, Confessions of a Breadwinner.

Anthony was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Her father was Bancroft Beatley, Harvard professor of education and later president of Simmons College. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1950 and married Reed Anthony in 1951. They had three children together, and Anthony worked as an elementary school teacher and in the Harvard Graduate School admissions and financial aid office until her retirement in 1991. The collection consists of her memoir, Letters to My Children: Growing Up in New England, which describes her childhood, her years at Radcliffe, and contains a genealogy of earlier generations of her family.

Shirley Sue Carriere Armstrong, known as Susan, was a white woman born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She married Vernon McRaney, a Greyhound Bus driver, in 1952. They had two children together, but Armstrong was unhappy with her marriage finding it sexually and intellectually unfulfilling. At the direction of her friend Thomas Hall, she began psychotherapy in 1962 with a Southern Baptist minister who intiated a sexual relationship with her. She divorced McRaney in 1964 and married Ed Armstrong later that year, but separated from him in 1975. She had a series of relationships with Black men, many considerably younger than herself. She continued her education at Radcliffe and Smith Colleges. Although she began writing at a young age, she did not show her work, much of which was autobiographical and highly sexual in nature. Among various other materials in this collection is Armstrong's explicit memoir that chronicles her conflicted relationship with her mother, her marriages, and relationships with several men.

Emily Newell Blair was a suffragist, feminist, writer, and Democratic party official. The collection contains a two volume autobiography about her, entitled Gamma's Story: Autobiography of Emily Newell Blair.

Educator Blumenfeld was born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, the seventh child of Russian immigrants. She studied Jungian psychology on her own, and at various teachers' colleges and taught in "progressive" schools prior to her marriage to Gustav Blumenfeld in 1954. Throughout her life she maintained an interest in Jungian psychology, especially in the interpretation of dreams. The collection contains a typed autobiography that details her musings on education, Jewish-Christian relations, causes of anti-semitism, and the significance of dreams.

Burnside was a suffragist, temperance advocate, and physician from Massachusetts. She graduated from the New England Female Medical College in Boston in 1867 and practiced medicine in Detroit, Michigan, where she founded the Women's Hospital and Founding Home, and then continued to practice in Buffalo, New York. She was the president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and was the first woman to be nominated for public office in Erie County, New York. The collection consists of a photocopy of a typed transcript of Burnside's autobiography, recounting her life until graduation from medical school.

Butler was a teacher of public speaking. Many of her clients were the wives of senators and diplomats. She was the first woman lobbyist in Washington, D.C., and a suffragist. The collection consists of her autobiography.

Clark grew up in New Hampshire, attended Boston University, Wellesley College, and Radcliffe College. She worked for the War Department in the United States and overseas, held administrative positions at both Wellesley and Radcliffe Colleges, and was assistant to the Dean of Women at Spelman College in Atlanta. The collection consists of her autobiography, entitled Around the World in 75 Years, which describes her childhood, working life, and the years of caring for her aged father.

Gitta M. Dano was born in Romania, emigrated to the United States after World War II, and eventually, with her family, ran a restaurant on Cape Cod featuring Austro-Hungarian cuisine. The collection consists of an autobiography that recounts her childhood, marriage, experience as a refugee and immigrant, and family life.

Davidoff was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Lithuanian Jewish Immigrants. She attended both Simmons and Radcliffe Colleges, and married Leo Davidoff, a neurosurgeon, in 1926. They had four children together and lived in New Canaan, Connecticut, where Ida was active in the League of Women Voters, Hadassah, and the PTA. She went back to school at Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia, where she studied family therapy focusing on the lives and mental health of older women. Her memoir describes her childhood and Jewish community life in Boston, her college years, a trip to Europe with her husband, life as a wife and mother, and her study about women and aging later in life.

Bertha Offenbach Fineberg graduated from Radcliffe in 1931. She became a physician, specializing in opthalmology, at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the New England Hospital for Women and Children. The collection consists of a memoir, entitled Bertha's Story: A Woman Doctor's Journey (1998).

Fosdick grew up in a wealthy family in Boston, Massachusetts. A fire destroyed a substantial amount of the family's property, and her father decided to move the family out West to farm and raise cattle. He traveled to Colorado, where he prepared a homestead for the family. He sent for them in 1861, and they met him in St. Joseph, Missouri after traveling by train and ferry boat. The family crossed the western plains to Colorado together in prairie schooners. The collection consists of Lucy H. Fosdick's typed memoir, entitled Across the Plains in '61. It mainly describes the family's journey from her perspective as a young girl, and touches on themes such as frontier life, 19th century modes of travel, foodways, and the battles and skirmishes between the United States Army and various Indigenous populations in Colorado.

Galland was born in New York City. Her father, Ernst Alfred Wiener, was in the railroad business and moved the family to Berlin after several business reversals. Galland was educated in Berlin, where she studied physics. She returned periodically to New York and married Walter Galland in 1927. He was a doctor at Lenox Hill Hospital. They had two daughters, and Galland continued her education, earning a BS in special education from the Teachers' College at Columbia University in 1951 and a master's degree from New York University in 1969. She taught at a number of schools for the remainder of her career. The collection consists of her memoir, entitled Around the World in More than Eighty Years, in which she recounts life in Germany during World War I, detailed family information, and her teaching career.

Singer and music teacher, Marie Reuter Gallison was born in Germany on May 24, 1861. She later taught at New England Conservatory of Music and at Radcliffe College, where she organized the Radcliffe Choral Society. The collection consists of a typescript memoir, entitled My Life in Two Continents.

Evelyn Williams Guthrie received a AB in English and psychology from Radcliffe College in 1919. In the 1920s, she was a secretary with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and during World War II, she was a secretary at the Mare Island Navy Yard and a censor at the Honolulu post office. She married to naval officer Harry A. Guthrie, who retired with the rank of Rear Admiral in 1950. Following her husband's retirement, Guthrie worked as his secretary at Wallace Press of Chicago. The collection contains a memoir documenting Evelyn Williams Guthrie's life from the 1920s to the 1940s, entitled Home is Where You Hang Your Hat: A True Story of a Navy Wife.

Ruth Hyde Hanford was the wife of Alfred Chester Hanford, dean of Harvard College from 1927-1947. The collection includes her memoir, entitled Backstairs at Harvard, which was never published, partly out of her aversion to publicity and partly because of the disapproval of her husband. It is an irreverent account of Hanford's experiences as a student at Vassar College, her work at the Harvard Bureau of Municipal Research, and life as the wife of a Harvard College Dean.

Jones was born and raised in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. She married Edward E. Jones in 1917, and they lived together in Missouri, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. The collection contains a copy of her memoir about her youth in Missouri, as well as her work in church women's groups.

Elsie Lillian Spalde Moore was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Henrietta Johanna Neumeister and Casper Spalde. She worked at a tannery, in a woolen mill, and at an arsenal during World War I. The collection consists of a photocopy of her memoir, entitled These Things I Remember.

O'Sullivan was a labor organizer, factory worker, and inspector. She became the first woman general organizer of the American Federation of Labor in 1892, and was one of the founders of the National Women's Trade Union League in 1902, and an inspector for the Massachusetts Board of Labor and Industries, from 1914 to 1929. She was also active in the prohibition and women's suffrage movements, and in the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. The collection consists of her autobiography describing her factory experiences and work as a labor organizer.

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Pool moved with her family to the United States in 1932. She graduated from the University of California, Berkely, in 1940, and went on to work as an assistant director of the Works Project Administration's recreation program in Oakland, as well as the regional supervisor from the Farm Security Admistration in California. She recieved her PhD from the University of Chicago in 1955, the same year that she married Ithiel de Sola Pool, a political scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She continued her career as a researcher for a number of studies, and directed research programs at the Radcliffe Institute. She also served on the boards of the Overseas Education fund of the League of Women Voters, and the Fellowship in Israel for Arab-Jewish Youth, travelining throughout Asia, Europe and Africa. The collection contains a memoir by her, based on an interview iwth Harriet Belin, entitled The Story of My Life.

Emily Bostein Procter was married to William Procter, and lived in New York City, Bar Harbor, Maine, and Palm Beach, Florida. The collection contains her memoir, much of it relating to musicians and concerts in the early- to mid-1900s.

Richardson worked for women's suffrage in Nebraska. The collection contains a photocopy of Grace C. Richardson's memoir entitled My Part in the Struggle for Equal Rights for Women, 1911-1920. The memoir includes photostats of clippings and photographs.

Biographer, essayist, and professor of English at Wesleyan University, Phyllis Rose attended Radcliffe College and earned her M.A. from Yale and her Ph.D. from Harvard University. She married Mark A. Rose in 1965, they had one son Edward and were subsequently divorced. She was the author of Woman of Letters: A Life of Virginia Woolf (1978), Parallel Lives: Five Victorian Marriages (1984), and The Year of Reading Proust: A Memoir in Real Time (1997), among others. She wrote for a number of publications, including The New York Times Book Review and Civilization.The collection includes personal and professional correspondence, diaries and notebooks, divorce documents, and an unpublished draft of The Intemperate Zone, A Diary, among others materials.

Emily Norwood Rando was a writer and editor from Vancouver, Washington. The collection contains a memoir written by Sebestyen and edited by Rando, describing Sebestyen's life during the Holocaust and the Hungarian Revolution.

Sommers escaped Nazi Germany with her family in 1937. The family settled in Indiana for a number of years before moving to New York City in 1941. The collection consists of a scanned copy, available only electronically, of Sommers' memoir entitled Looking Back, which was written in 1941 while Louisa was living in New York and attending high school. She describes her childhood in Germany, the increasing threat of Nazis, how her family left Germany, and her schooling.

Spencer received her B.S. (1980) and A.M. (1985) from Clark University. She was an assistant manager in the Personnel Department at the State Mutual Insurance Co., Worcester, Massachusetts. The collection consists of a copy of her thesis, "What Color Is the Wind": The Autobiography of an Afro-American Business Woman.

Taylor was a dentist born and raised in New York State. She became interested in dentistry while teaching in Michigan, and received private instruction from Drs. Jonatan Taft and Samuel Wardle, in 1862 began private practice, and in 1866 received a D.D.S. from the Ohio College of Dental Surgery. The collection contains a copy of her autobiography, The Early Women in Dentistry.

Margaret Thomas Warren was born in Texas and attended her cousin Alva Pearl Barrett's flying school in Fort Worth. In 1929 she became the youngest person to be awarded a pilot's license. She married twice. Her collection contains a memoir covering the years 1912 to 1934, and describes her childhood, her secretarial training, experiences at flying school, and her first job: demonstrating and selling airplanes for the Curtis-Wright Aviation Company of New York. It also discusses her work with an aviation stunt team, her association with Jacqueline Cochran, the effects of the depression on the airplane industry, her first marriage, and the reasons fo rher suicide attempts.
