- André, Johann Anton. Thematisches Verzeichnis derjenigen Originalhandschriften von W. A. Mozart, welche Hofrath André in Offenbach a. M. besitzt. Offenbach am Main: André, 1841.Original issue. After a sequence of Johann Anton André's handwritten Mozart Verzeichnisse, this is the only one which finally appeared in print. With the help of previous catalogues and still during André's lifetime, it was put together by his pupil Heinrich Henkel and contains 280 entries. It was originally intended as a sales catalogue and earlier issues contained price lists as well. In the latest Köchel Catalogue (1964) all number citations marked "André" refer to this printed 1841 Verzeichnis. Merritt Room Mus 745.1.42 BMEO.
- André, Johann Anton. [Thematisches Verzeichnis W. A. Mozartscher Manuskripte, chronologisch geordnet von 1764 bis 1784. Bound photocopy of the original manuscript with authentication by Zoeller. Also see: Oldman, Cecil B. "J. A. André on Mozart's Manuscripts," Music and Letters 5 (April 1924), 169-76, inserted in this volume. This print-out from a microfilm, obtained from the Hirsch collection in the British Library, comes from an extremely rare Swiss journal which was published only from 28 June 1766 to 20 July 1767 and is practically unknown. The issue contains an anonymous "discours" in French on the young Mozard's (!) stay in Switzerland. For details and English translation, see A. In a private letter of 19 October 1803, written in French to Frederik Samuel Silverstolpe, Nissen asks for his opinion of the book which he (Nissen) did not have a chance to read yet (photocopy in BMEO). Subsequently, Nissen incorporated pages of it (with significant alterations) in his Mozart biography (567ff). He also gave a copy of Mozarts Geist as a gift to his stepson Karl. The inscription in it reads: "Geschenk an Carl Mozart von seinem zweyten Vater, Nissen.Copenhagen, 19 Dec.1811." Nannerl also owned a copy of the book. Merritt Room Mus 4196.13.900 BMEO.

In June 1765 Barrington, a Fellow in the Royal Society, had examined 9-year old Wolfgang Mozart at their London lodgings. The letter was read before the Society on 15 February 1770. This represents one of two earliest printed accounts of Mozart in the English language (the other is in Charles Burney's "The Present State of Music in France and Italy", First Edition, 1771, 228). In 1781 Barrington re-issued his report in a volume called "Miscellanies," see (0217). Ref.: Hirsch IV, 1554a - Age there should read 9 instead of 13.

Ziegenhagen's connection with Mozart has not been satisfactorily established to date. Wolfgang Plath, in a letter to E.O. of 1/6/1977, offers a number of conjectures that could promote further research. The autograph of K. 619 is at the library of the University of Uppsala, Sweden. A beautiful facsimile edition was published by Richard Engländer in Stockholm 1955. A copy is in the BMEO q.v.
